We introduce the notion of Voronoi diagram restricted to a surface. Under some sampling condition, the nerve of this covering, the so-called restricted Delaunay triangulation, is a good approximation of the surface. We will show how such an approximation can be constructed in an effective way by probing the surface. Applications and experimental results will also be presented.
